Choice in document formats isn’t a war, it is a discussion, different people and groups hold different views and none can be considered wrong.

A negotiation process with a vendor that has a strong ideological bias to cement the status quo, quite rational from a business & shareholder perspective but negative in the sense of economic efficiency and technology development.

Nothing speaks against a "fight" as long as no one gets hurt (or loses his job)!

Participation in the development of ODF and OpenXML provides a platform for these discussions, and a forum for resolution of the technical, political and in some cases ideological issues that need to be resolved.

Could not agree more!

Microsoft is famous for it's Embrace, Extend, Extinguish strategy. The thing I fear the most about MS getting involved in the TC for ODF is just that. MS will attempt to create their own version that simply won't work as well on other platforms. And then you'll blame it on the other guys and suggest that we should really be using Windows.

I've always wondered, is that sort of business model supported by the developers who work there?
