Carlo Ancelotti Real Madrid Manager revealed why they sent Federico Valverde into the position at right-back last game.
The Real Madrid opened to a goalless draw with Villarreal in La Liga on Saturday, but Los Blancos remain at the top of the table with 17 points from seven games.
After the game, Spanish media asked the Italian coach why the Uruguay midfielder was playing at right-back. This was a position that surprised the media and fans a lot.
“I like it because he can play anywhere,” Ancelotti said.
“For me, he is not a right-back. But I need more forward movement. And I try to keep (Marco) Asensio between the lines of play.
“We consider a one-on-one duel situation. We crossball but they have a lot of tall players. We had a hard time putting pressure and they dealt with the ball very well.”
